A marine mammal expert says the population of a fur seal colony on Kangaroo Island may have peaked after a study revealed a decline in the number of pups.

A new study by the CSIRO shows that fish around the world are shrinking in size. Commercial fishing and climate change are believed to be the main culprits behind the decrease, but CSIRO scientists say the shrinking size is also leading to a drop in fish populations, with smaller fish more susceptible to predators.

NEW South Wales Resources Minister Chris Hartcher has been accused of hypocrisy after a speech he made to the NSW parliament in 2005 on the dangers of coal seam gas re-emerged following his speech to a petroleum industry conference at Brisbane yesterday.
